I would venture to guess not. Most infections are caused by an allergic reaction to particular metals in earrings, such as zinc or nickel. Seeing as there is no metal, just wood, I'd think it'd be fine. As for water, that would depend on whether or not they were sealed and to what degree if so. Most woods need several coats of a poly type sealer to withstand water.
