If the ruby is a natural ruby that is untreated, within the best color range, you could have a gem that is worth millions of dollars. Synthetic rubies are at the other end of the value range. The only way to know for sure is to send the gem to a famous gemological lab and have it graded. The lab will provide you with a report stating what kind of gem you have : natural/synthetic/treated/ruby/sapphire/..... Then you will be able to verify the market price more precisely.
To give you an idea of a top ruby : recently, a 9.25 carat cushion-shaped Burmese ruby purchased by Laurence Graff for $2.42 million or $260,000 per carat.
