If a girl writes her new name before marriage using the sir name of her prospective husband, it was a bad omen.
Traditional Austrian marriages were celebrated with great fervor and gaiety. The association was considered auspicious as it bound not only the boy and girl, but also provided the union of two families.
Many days before the wedding, various types of preparations were made. Marriage provided an opportunity for the gathering of friends, family members and relatives.
Similarly, a bride should not stitch her wedding dress. Even a bride wearing her bridal attire before her wedding day was considered unlucky. Similarly, a groom must not see her bride in the wedding dress before the wedding ceremony. Often the brides leave some unstitched work on the bridal dress so that it can be done only when the outfit was to be worn.
Veil was considered the inseparable part of the bridal costume. It warded off evil spirits. Generally, red and white flowers were avoided to be used on the occasion because they were believed to represent blood and bandages.

When the bride was to leave her house for the wedding venue, her last look in the mirror was considered to bring good luck. However, if she happened to return back again to look in the mirror, it was considered to be a bad omen.
Often the bride maids were attired in the same outfit as that of the bride. It was probably done to mislead the evil spirits and protect the bride from their bad intentions.
Seeing a chimney sweep on the way toward the marriage venue was considered lucky. Spiders, black cats and rainbows were lucky.
Bad weather on the wedding day was considered auspicious for the marriage. Cloudy sky or thunder predicted turbulent relationships. Rains were however considered good in some cultures. Snow signified happiness and fertility in the marriage.
It was believed that a partner who made a first purchase after the marriage would rule the family relations. The brides were often too smart as they would purchase a pin or something from their maids.

why does my cat act like i'm about to kill him?
my cat, shadow, is kinda "crazy". when i hold him he scratches me like im gonna kill him...
(cause you might say "cats dont like to be held", all my other cats (Either soccer [my other cat]!) lets me hold them) he is a weird cat in other ways like: i never see him eating nor drinking yet he kinda fat, he'll be on the ground when he sees us or we enter he climbs up the fence ( we built a cat-pin for them) and *IF* we get him down he runs around the pin like "a chicken with it's head cut off" then gets under the old kiddie car we put in there for them till we "spook" he out of under there, and he is always in the shadows of the pin.

Some cats have a sort of instinctual fear of being restrained or trapped. Even if they like you, when they feel themselves being held, it is like some alarm in their brain goes off, like "Uh oh! I'm trapped! I have to get away!" and they start struggling.
This is more common in cats that are not well socialized to being handled as kittens , but some of it just seems to be their own individual personality.
I have a cat who is like that. Now he is older he likes to be held for short periods and will purr happily -- but then after a few minutes, he gets uncomfortable feeling "restrained" and he is ready to go. And you should always let a cat go when he starts to act tense and uncomfortable, or puts his ears back or his tail starts twitching fast.
It sounds like Shadow is just a skittish cat who is nervous and not too comfortable with people. I would just not hold Shadow right now since it seems to upset him. And the last thing you should want to do is scare him more by "spooking" him. unless for some reason it is absolutely necessary to get him out from his hiding place. like to put the flea prevention drops on his skin.
Try seeing if you can get him to play with a wand toy -- a stick with a string and a toy attached to the string -- you can move it around like it is a mouse or something. and he can watch it and if he is brave enough he will come chase it. It might take a lot of trying before he will do it, . but if he will play, he can find that is a fun way to interact with you.
Another idea is to just sit near him (or his hiding place) and just hang out, read, talk to him quietly , etc. . If he is scared to come close to you or let you pet him you might use some treats to get him to come closer -- put a treat down by his hiding place then back up so he can get it without being scared you will grab him. You might get him to gradually come closer and closer to you. if he is very nervous don't even touch him at first if he is brave enough to come right up within touching distance. hold out your hand for him to sniff if he wants but do not touch him at first. After he does that a few days, try petting him gently and then give him a treat.
He might get better about wanting to come close to you and have you pet him if he starts to learn that he can do that without you trying to pick him up or restrain him in any way.
just be gentle and very very patient with him. And try to make sure that other people are also not chasing or grabbing him which will make him more skittish about people.
