You don't need it. The very last quest you need to do is a quest to collect all of the medals from the marks in Rano and Counnous. It doesn't matter if you have Yoff's or not when you get to that point.
I think you should really reconsider fighting the sandworm, though. Sandworms have 100k life, you're not going to be able to kill one with just one or two people, and YOU need to be the one to make the kill. You would be better off buying a glowing gargoyle statue and getting together a strong party to go through Maiz, or (if you're very patient) getting the field boss sketches.
