how clear can I get fiberglass with 3 layers of cloth??
I want to put a "window" on the bottom of a boat that has been given to me, the only thing I can think of using is fiberglass (plexy glass yellow's and become brittle quickly in the water) can I do it with just fiberglass matting?? I figure I need at least 3 layers of cloth to be able to walk on it
I used to do layups for a defense contractor, and never recall the cloth becoming clear? In my memory I could still see the fibers, and even in a greenish/yellow tint.
Certainly a more viable solution might be just get an under the water line window, from a place that deals in boating supplies, cut the opening and "glass" it in. Even a Glass Bottom boat window is not just Fiberglass cloth and resin. Certainly Stepping on it seems a fast way to find any OOOPS. Hopefully, you have a pail at least, or a bilge pump.
