How do you get rid of the bump behind your cartilage piercing?
i have had my cartilage piercing for about less than 6 months now. I never used to have this bump, but i noticed once i changed it into a hoop that there was a huge bump behind it. It didn't hurt at all. Now i put my original sterling silver plain stud back in. Do i just leave it alone and let it heal? are there any medicines that will remove it? please help!
Paulina - The bump behind your cartilage piercing is possibly a keloid which occurs in some individuals as an overgrowth of scar tissue following surgery or piercing. It starts out as inflammation which is why it is always risky to pierce any cartilage. Stay in the lower soft part of the ear for piercing. Keloids are sometimes treated with steroid injections to shrink them, OR they may ultimately require surgical excision. See a dermatologist physician for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

The methods now available to treat keloids are:
Cortisone injections (intralesional steroids): These are safe and not very painful. Injections are usually given once per month until the maximum benefit is obtained. Injections are safe (very little steroid gets into the bloodstream) and usually help flatten keloids; however, steroid injections can also make the flattened keloid redder by stimulating the formation of more superficial blood vessels.
