b. Contrary to popular belief, diamonds are not indestructible. They are incredibly tough, but can be cracked or even broken if they contain flaws.
A flawless diamond is rare and has a grade of IF or FL. Diamonds that have a lot of inclusions (flaws) have a grade of I1, I2 or I3.
Now as you might imagine, a flawless diamond is incredibly expensive, so for a diamond that has no flaws that are visible to the naked eye and that is reasonably prices, look for a clarity grading of VS2, VS1.
3. Color
Colorless diamonds are graded D-F, near Colorless are graded G-J. The near colorless graded diamonds may have color when placed face down on a sheet of white paper, but appear colorless when they are mounted in your ring - so these are actually great value for money.
4. Carat
The Carat is the weight of the diamond, so directly relates to its size. The bigger the size of diamond, the greater will be the carat and the greater the price.

Our 20th wedding anniversary is coming soon. What diamond/platinum ring setting is the most traditional?
I'm thinking of a platinum band with either 3 diamonds, center one largerst, or five diamonds of equal size. I'd like to go with the most traditional setting for this 20th anniversary gift. Thanks
Traditionally the 20th anniversary gift is china. The modern spin on it is platinum however traditionally platinum should be saved for the 60th anniversary. If you want to go for the platinum now however, I would go with a 3 stone setting. I have one and it is gorgeous, I won't ever take it off.
