Shabby chic is all about pairing old and new together to create a warm, unique style. The warm and interesting look of shabby chic is growing in popularity as many people discover the joys of restoring old pieces, creating an individual look and doing so on a small budget. The style oozes romance, elegance and classic all the while creating a warm feel and very individual feel. When you mix old and new pieces you have the luxury of going for some cheaper items that just fit perfectly into your design, and being able to choose odd or unusual items of furniture that go with the look. However, while you can achieve shabby chic on a budget, some pieces will be more expensive, as old does not necessarily mean cheap. Some older, antique items can be pricey as they have been restored already, or have significant historical significance and this can make the cost creep up. Ornate detailing is popular as is the colour white. When it comes to shabby chic style, clean lines along with a classic finish are the way to go. Look for items with an interesting feature or with detail that is different. If you find an old piece of furniture that you like, then you can restore it with a coat of paint or some detailing. Sometimes the detail may be subtle, just a touch of something small. Other times the detail may be overwhelming and take centre stage on the item.
Shabby chic furniture is easy to create if you are willing to spend a little time planning key items to fit in with the look. A well placed set of mirrors or lamps can work wonders as can a restored coffee table or bed frame. Other items such as chandeliers can offer the elegance you are after while an old rug can create the counter balance.
