While I have not stayed in this property, I have been to both Jamaica ( Ocho ) and Dom Rep ( Punta Cana) several occasions and prefer the Dom Rep - although travel to and from the airport leaves a bit to be desired in both areas.
I loved the Jamaican food and and people in general , Dom's is pretty good too and the beaches are comparable
You wont find as much of an "entitlement" attitude in the Dom Republic either -
I believe good service deserves generous tips, but it is not till you earned it
Generally Secrets properties are above par.

For some really fun stuff check out Cayman or Curacao.. You can get rentals there and most include a car , and get butler service at some locations.. a bit more pricey ... but nice and it gives you a more independent vacation.
If you are diver nothing beats the ABC islands, Bahamas and I hear Barbados and Grenada are pretty good too.
